Raccoon Tiger Shrimp

Caridina spec. Raccoon

Raccoon Shrimp have started to become available recently.
The most prominent characteristic of Raccoon Tiger shrimp is their variable dotted and striped pattern all over their body. A bit like that of the Tiger shrimp as we know it, but the dots are very different … Racoon Tiger shrimp grow to a length of up to 2,5 cm and can reach an age of around two years. The males tend to stay smaller and thinner. In nature, Raccoon Tiger shrimp are found in smaller streams and surrounding flooded grassland and reeds.

The basic color of the Raccoon Tiger shrimp is transparent (sometimes blueish), and on the sides of its body there are brown to black dots and stripes. In some of these shrimp you'll notice tiny white pigment spots, and their tail fan often has a yellowish to orange color.

Like most dwarf shrimp, the Raccoon Tiger shrimp (Caridina spec.) is an omnivore and an absolutely peaceful species. Conspecifics and other aquarium inhabitants have nothing to fear from them. They can be kept together with small peaceful fish that do not eat shrimp.

Ideal water parameters:
PH: 6.0-7.0
Temp: 19-23 C.
TDS: 100-180

Acclimatising:
When introducing them to their new tank, please acclimatise them slowly in a bowl over a period of several hours, mixing your tank water with the water they came in, slowly increasing the amount of tank water until you have a mixture of 1/3 transport and 2/3 tank water. After that net them out and put them into their new home. It is normal for the shrimp to lose a little colour during transport. As soon as they are in their new tank they will colour back up to their full intensity.
